Hmm, did we ever find out why the VD had a government scent? How was he affiliated with the higher ups?

I'm sure it's perfectly possible that they were going to attract the rationale eventually on their own, but I've always head-canoned that Boss Rat tipped these guys off to force Greenie to get evicted. Just seems so wily, hehe.

Also, the vertical bars on the frames with the rationale rodent always make an eerie soundtrack play in my head, like there's a bit of mind control going on there. I wonder if he has a subtle style for drawing out the truth.

There's also some really interesting Zack comments on this page. I might go through the comments on all the NofNA pages some day and gather up all these tidbits. I think there's a wiki somewhere already...

so the mystery Art, can it be akin to when people say the ancient humans had such techniques we lost, if they were more "open and connected to ______" Like those who think crystal grids in South Africa allowed people there to make advanced civilizations to flurish 50,000 years ago. or the 'ol "ancent Egyptions used levitation to buld pyrimids" or "_____'s structures were made with sound levitation"
if those where (telinoias?) for humans

is XX's sexual techniques implementing what used to be used for fighting?

I know little of what makes a human "best at sex" and I just seem to come off as speciesist as "what can a weasel family animal do? being shaped like that and all, even if they think like people humans and not base animals"

Hi Silkworm,

I think that homo sapiens' neocortex has changed so much that they would not be able to use Art as they supposedly once did in prehistory, within their own society. It is its own thing.

Perhaps a monk, through meditative introspection, might be able to reconnect with some ancient part of himself. But that would not be a part of, say, snake style, or crane style, or dragon style.

@Seven: Ooh I didnt think of that! I was figuring that officials are putting pressure on establishments like XX's, even though they may currently be legal, because the buisness that goes on in there is not considered appealing by society and might reflect badly on the area. Basically the police acting as enforcers for public image and denial of sex.

Oh and on the topic of Art and how humans currently can't parse it or the budding animal society, I'm curious about some of our own martial arts when they were in their early stages. In the case of martial art styles that are themed around animals and animal movements. Would those, in their early development and usage, be considered as a parallel to the the Lease styles of the animals Art? At least until the point the style becomes refined and separate enough from the original inspiration.

so their definition of art is more supernatural?

Oh, this is a very interesting conversation...just as an aside, the discussion reminds me of some fictional ideas from 'Star Control 2' where humanity's perception of reality was limited by outside alien forces in order to protect us from...extradimensional intruders, I guess?

There was a lot more to the whole thing, but it's implied that despite our limited perceptions, many of mankind's creations (as a specific example, the pyramids at Giza) were imbued with an energy or force recognizable to other alien visitors.

In the storyline, a conquering force of aliens perceived the pyramids as enough of a threat to destroy them early on in the conflict. Perhaps they were a force of 'art'.

A later group of genetically engineered humans succeeded in advancing their perceptions to see these vaguely threatening 'extradimensional beings', to their ultimate demise.

Art is so mysterious! I haven't been able to quite grasp it. And I don't know if I want to, or to keep it mysterious forever! (I really really want to though).

Hi Nigel and Kuu,

Yes, this is being seen from the perspective of animal society.

After the merge of the two societies, which happened around 2500, they had to accept each other, so the realities also slowly merged. However, the power of homo sapiens' 20,000 years of civilization made it difficult for the animals' 500-year civilization to maintain its composure.

By the time Solar System occurs, animal society had become something else. However, the network that Art uses to perpetuate itself still exists in the animal "matrix". Art does not exist in our civilization's "matrix"; we would have to let it "in" by patently acknowledging it on a lower level. (For example, a kid like Mowgli from the Jungle Book being born directly into animal society.) By that point in society, the advent of the color computer, it's almost obsolete... almost.
12 . by: kuu May 31, 2016, 5:06 pm

so they all would be naked to us? and not a "oh that poor dearie, that vole must of gotten chewing gum in their fur and then got feathers stuck to their head"

"that poor wolf, all tied up in someone's shirt!"

or doing a double take and then it going under the radar, "wait wha...did I just see. Oh just a weasle. for a second I thought it was wearing a hat of flowers"
11 . by: Nigel May 31, 2016, 9:58 am

Zack, I take your comment to mean that we, the audience, are perceiving these characters as another member of animal society would? And not at humans?

This brings up an interesting question regarding the previous story arc. Several. Is intention/denial still present in the perceptive matrix of the world of Solar System? Or, like facture and its related disciplines, has that sort of effort gone out of cultural norm?

Oooh, busted.

I love this guy's honesty.
8 . by: Seven May 30, 2016, 11:59 am

@Silkworm- maybe they're concerned about the organized crime element getting involved?
7 . by: Silkworm May 30, 2016, 11:25 am

Oooh key word being 'this story', heh. Something big must have happened to break through our denial then. Something that couldn't be denied. I hope we get an arc about that at some point in the future.

Back to the current arc... It was my impression that sex work was just severely frowned upon, not illegal, so I wonder why officials have come a knocking.... Maybe they need a permit? Probably wishful thinking on my part, heh.

Also, has XX stopped using the fig scent now that she's working out of her home or is she still trying to keep some degree of distance between her personal life and her work?

Zack's comment below was a really strong gutblow. >_o I've been afraid of being "that guy" for as long as I can remember. Thanks for keeping us sharp.
I'm so glad to see another one of your wolves, all glory to you.
5 . by: kuu May 30, 2016, 6:36 am

i thought it was going to be the wolf from the first page
4 . by: Zack May 30, 2016, 2:56 am

Hi,

It's completely irrelevant to this story, but I should say, that the denial of mankind's society is far too powerful to perceive any animal customs, fancy clothes included. This intent-looking wolf would just look like a muddy wolf or a wolf with a piece of forest debris smattered across its back. The rodent would just look fluffier or lighter in color, maybe with some stained fur.

SAME CAMILA i just had a moment of TINY GASP but no, different times...10%+ just has such a special place in my heart i swear
2 . by: hemlock May 30, 2016, 12:59 am

I'm really curious if we're ever going to get a story, either about the merge or when human's first started to notice animals wearing clothes out in the wild or their behavior. Or like, the lives of domesticated pets? Must be a crazy time to be a biologist.
1 . by: Camila sc May 29, 2016, 10:34 pm

I went really "!!!!!!!!!!!!!" for a second with that first panel, and then two second later remembered this must take place like 100 years after 10%+... lol oh well.
