this in an incredible and poignant page but now i use the last panel as a reaction image all of the time

Yeah, it really is poignant. I think it's also where she and I diverged. I found the door and ran, escaping that way. She... did something else.

This is what I wrote: "Again and again I created a system or argument like a labyrinth, subtle, winding and many-pathed, to be learned and then escaped. Oh, I had points, I had profound and central points! But you could only reach them tired and lost. By my lack of wisdom and lack of reason I failed philosophy. At last I could only breathe to it: I will understand you by rejecting you. I will deny you, I will fear you, and I will flee you."

This is so poignant... the big canvas being her vehicle of self-realization. The growth, the connection, the love represented in those practice doodles, overshadowed by the harsh maze.

She looks more real than she has in a long, long time.

another good free comic hosting site is comicfury, if you aren't building from scratch
34 . by: Zack January 14, 2018, 7:25 pm

Hi commentator 33,

I made this website from scratch. First, I rented out some space from bluehost.com. Then, I had to teach myself the basics of PHP in order to make it so that I wouldn't have to make an entirely new HTML page for each comic page. It took a month of trial and error before I could accomplish it.

The comments section, before you could comment like this, it just sent an e-mail to me. The way the comments are now, is actually a guestbook script I got from a "free php scripts" website back in 2007, which I then heavily modified. (Guestbooks... remember those?)

I hear there's a bunch of fancier stuff you can do with style coding (CSS), but I never learned any of that.

The special mouseover sections were made possible by Javascript code originally compiled by Erik Bosrup that he made free to use. Page 291 of Solar System was especially compiled for NofNA by NofNA reader Andrey Gribkov.

If you would like to make your own comic surfing interface without the hassle of learning how to work with PHP (or other code), I would recommend one of the free templates... The only one I remember reading about is something called Comic Press for Word Press.

Hey Zack, how did you make your website? I want to post comic pages but I'm finding it hard to find a pre-made comic layout to get started! You don't need to go in detail, you're a busy guy! I can find my way if pointed in a direction.

I'M SO HAPPY but also worried that the comic will end on the note of XX gets out but then can't get a job anywhere else.
31 . by: Starry January 13, 2018, 4:52 pm

YEAH FIG DO IT UP, I'M SO EXCITED
30 . by: TenWren January 13, 2018, 12:43 pm

Worried, but excited. Do your thing, Fig!
29 . by: Magenta January 13, 2018, 9:47 am

No "death before dishonor" this time, baby.
28 . by: January 13, 2018, 3:38 am

If there's love...
27 . by: Watcher January 13, 2018, 12:52 am

Fantastic!

At the start of the story, XX was obsessed with the art of Capture. Now, after being a captive herself for so long, she's finally seeking Escape!

You can do it, X!
26 . by: January 13, 2018, 12:25 am

@11 I didn't even realize the white fur connection until you pointed it out! She did it!
25 . by: Juna January 12, 2018, 11:07 pm

I cropped that last panel for reference, and in thumbnail form the contrast between her arm and the rest of the body is even more striking! It's just such a powerful gesture.
24 . by: Furrama January 12, 2018, 7:26 pm

She completed it, she just didn't finish signing it.
23 . by: Seven January 12, 2018, 7:20 pm

Oooh, how exciting! Is the stoat shape formed by her fist and forearm?

When did she complete Cherry's portrait? I only remember her partially signing a blank piece of wood.
22 . by: Dani January 12, 2018, 6:16 pm

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to point out what I just noticed: she used Greenie's big canvas!! How fitting!
21 . by: Dani January 12, 2018, 6:15 pm

She's starting her new year off right

She might even...know da way
20 . by: January 12, 2018, 4:05 pm

Yeah, X! Fight back, resist!
19 . by: January 12, 2018, 1:24 pm

its been so long since she’s done a formal art piece! my girl ready to conquer the maze, her demons, AND that art block
18 . by: Dani January 12, 2018, 1:17 pm

Go XX go!! Use RG and get out of the literal maze as well as the figurative!!

Amazing last "panel" there, a great perspective choice!
17 . by: Taj January 12, 2018, 1:12 pm

-Excited screaming-
16 . by: Muse January 12, 2018, 12:40 pm

Woo hooooo!!
15 . by: hazard January 12, 2018, 8:22 am

Yeeeeeeeeah that's my girl!!!

She has DEPTH now haha!
14 . by: January 12, 2018, 8:13 am

@Papeipou I think she just painted over all the drawings she did with Smoothie. Filed up the whole canvas.
13 . by: January 12, 2018, 3:56 am

The top of fig's painting has some colour in it! NICE cant wait to see what happens next!
12 . by: January 12, 2018, 3:00 am

You know, her biggole tail is like a Kabuki brush if you think about it.
11 . by: January 12, 2018, 2:57 am

SHE SOILED THAT WHITE FUR! WHAT IS UP!!!!! LET'S DO THIS!
10 . by: Shannon January 12, 2018, 12:27 am

As is the power of introspection. Still scared to see what happens, but I am so hopeful!
9 . by: Shannon January 12, 2018, 12:24 am

No matter what happens, seeing her in this way, knowing her intent is such a beautiful and powerful thing. I love seeing her so full of dimension, the conviction in her eyes. What I love about these characters and stories is that the will to change is real.
8 . by: Someone Kewl January 11, 2018, 11:02 pm

Zack, you illustrate movement so GD well.

XX, Le' gooooooooo!
7 . by: Juna January 11, 2018, 10:53 pm

(pumps up fist) let's go

I love that we see the gray pigment darkening her arm while she's regaining the dimension in her fur, her eyes, and her nose. We've never seen her so well-defined, even in her most passionate defenses of her art.
6 . by: January 11, 2018, 10:41 pm

yes!! love that balled fist, she looks so defiant! and with SHADING. i'm so excited
5 . by: January 11, 2018, 10:04 pm

YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS i was hyped from the moment we saw actual value shading on XX in the first panel

(also nice to 100% confirm that she was using the giant canvas for drawing lessons)

(and now that the brothel girl drawings are complete, i'd totes buy a set of prints for them so i could hang them on my wall)
4 . by: January 11, 2018, 10:00 pm

Oh heck I wasn't expecting another page so soon!
I'm glad XX is fighting back, and she's coming to realizations on her own.
3 . by: Furrama January 11, 2018, 9:57 pm

Ah, she's commemorated Fig's downfall. Now there's a complete set of brothel girl paintings.

The beginning of the end starts now.
2 . by: January 11, 2018, 9:40 pm

It's drawings from when she was teaching Smoothie!
1 . by: Papeipou January 11, 2018, 9:38 pm

This makes me so hopeful! What a great piece Fig has done. Can anybody make out what’s behind the maze?
