It's an abstraction.

Convince yourselves his almond eyes and sharply angled cheek fur is hawt!!

21, I agree. He's supposed to be this unbelievably sexy character, but I just see him as absolutely adorable. Partially dorky when he goes off on his ass tangents.
21 . by: September 14, 2017, 8:11 am

it's kind of funny to me that he's supposed to be sexy, because he just looks UNBEARABLY ADORABLE sitting patiently there in panel 4 to me, dang it, haha

Heh heh.

My nose.

From page 135:

"We study people, and the effects life has on them. That's what this flower represents.

See how it's closed? Most of our corsages are plants that only bloom at night. Our specialty is the darkness of the identity - things inside people which, because they don't know about them, run amok, causing harm to others... and themselves.

Society has advanced beyond what nature has intended. And we're here to catalogue the difference, to help us acclimate and progress as a civilization."

Like, yeah, phallic symbol, but it also represents Smoothie's resolve to help XX overcome the parts of herself that are holding her back. That might help explain her enigmatic little smile and subsequent getting ahold of herself.

Can't wait to see how this lesson progresses.

His flower always looks so heavy, but then I think... it's just a flower!

The circle is only an abstract representation of its cousin, the sphere.
15 . by: kuu September 13, 2017, 6:45 am

dream circle=revolution
real circle=not real
14 . by: September 12, 2017, 5:55 pm

The circle is a lie

I have to laugh at the way XX points out the change in XY's coat; you'd think he was turning into a werewolf or something.

THERE. IS. NO. CIRCLE.
11 . by: Dani September 12, 2017, 10:59 am

Smoothie's change reminds me of men growing out their facial hair!

Hah @Downhill. I for one appreciate his natural eyeliner. Nature of nature's art at work.

And yea @5 and @bluefan, the phallic symbol was my gut reaction too. That resolute look after the flower panel definitely upturns that read. That and the purple motif in that panel and in the slight glow in the last suggest she's regaining her grasp on the situation. Smoothie's purple has become a sign of healthy integration during this part of the story, it seems like.

@4&5 I thought that, like earlier in the story, Smoothie's huge flower could be considered a phallic symbol, and that the emphasis and the purple background represented XX being aware of this. Hence the playful smirk before she composes herself again.

But now I think your explanation fits better @5. If it was mine, I'd think she would look bothered by her own reaction, like the first few panels. It does look like she is reassured by the presence of the flower.

Oh no... she's one of THOSE art teachers.

Have fun with that Smoothmagroove. XD

I know stoats find winter coats sexy, but I can't help but laugh. He looks like an old man now with those big bushy grey eyebrows...not usually considered sexy by us humans! (Sorry Smoothie) (Sorry bushy-browned elderly men reading this)
6 . by: @5 September 12, 2017, 12:11 am

Sorry my english sucks :(
5 . by: September 12, 2017, 12:10 am

@4 I think it's because staying dress gives her a safety that her dreams won't become reality; like a barrier between the art lesson and the sex. So the flower represent the power she'll have over the situation, showing society is stronger than sex and making her more confidante.

Hah, I don't think it is the canvas Greenie bought, but it would be such a good slap in the face if it was. The canvas he bought her and kept guilting her about not using (and using it for what he considered "proper" art) covered in scribbles used to teach Smoothie to draw.

Also, I wonder why the striking emphasis on Smoothie's flower with the purple/red?
3 . by: hazard September 11, 2017, 10:05 pm

Well she's managed to get composed after the initial fluster. (I like seeing which features stoats find cute, charming, or sexy, like turning white lol).

I also like picturing XX violently drawing a circle screaming "ITS NOT REAL!!"
2 . by: Juna September 11, 2017, 10:05 pm

Ah, her first real lesson has a different script. Up till last update I was wondering whether they'd begun their lessons! And it looks like... she's using the canvas Greenie bought for her.

aw, smoothie looks so cute!
