1. Fig is not always the viewpoint character.

2. Fig's coloration is natural and tied to her arc, and hasn't been fully explored as of yet. (Seems to have to do with repression and identity.)

3. We the audience are sometimes shown things the characters don't actively perceive, at least not in the same way that is shown to us.

but everyone says xx/fig is fake white right? how did she do that? but nobody says the boyfriend is green. she sees him as green so we do? but then would she see everyone else as other colors?
27 . by: Juna June 19, 2017, 5:24 pm

More layers than a baklava, which, incidentally, this society should be ripe to invent.
26 . by: Furrama June 19, 2017, 5:18 pm

Now that I think about it that's most likely how (E)XY works. He's not literally green when he grows a summer coat, he's symbolically green for the audience.

Besides drawing familiarity with a fig leaf I don't know what it MEANS yet but I'm paying attention. Perhaps envy or concealment? Fig leaves in art generally hid the naughty bits.

Merriam-Webster has this definition:
[from the use by Adam and Eve of fig leaves to cover their nakedness after eating the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:7)]
: something that conceals or camouflages usually inadequately or dishonestly

Oh I just got it. And the male/female thing. You even have the fig fruit thing going and tied in with the sex DANGIT ZACK YOU'RE TOO CLEVER FOR YOUR OWN GOOD HOW LONG DID THIS TAKE YOU? THIS HAS LIKE SEVEN LAYERS.

"...You remind me of someone." -Fig, page 127

I think that's the key. Fig probably doesn't actually see her as herself, it's more of a symbol for us, the audience. The way Cherry II acts is very Mirror Fig like.

Sherry was just as nasty when we saw her without Fig present, so the attitude isn't Fig-vision, but her colour apparently is, and I don't know why. Surely the personification would be enough, so I've been wondering since it was revealed her appearance is altered in Fig-vision just WHY she sees her as disturbingly similar.
23 . by: Tenka June 19, 2017, 1:52 pm

Eclipsing Sherry, what's this? Is Fig's (and our) presentation of Sherry mostly based on herself? Or just her color?
22 . by: natoon June 19, 2017, 3:07 am

I wonder if she even knows that is happening - that Sherry isn't white.
21 . by: June 18, 2017, 11:31 am

If she left the mirror, do you think she's going to reappear eclipsing Sherry again soon?

Holy crap, has it really been that long since 10%+? That's frightening, ahah.

@Picano + Zack
Thanks heaps guys! Also duuuhhhh I can't believe i missed the glossary link up top hahah :,)

Also whoa that's a blast from the past! Man it really has been 8 years since first finding Zacks work on da....
Would you all believe I did a short presentation at my old polytechnic that featured some of Zacks art and panels of NofNA? It was about how using free web based drawing programs and forums brings a new social element to art.
Hahah man life has really changed since highschool but even years later I still find myself coming back to see what's been going on in the NofNA universe :,)
18 . by: June 17, 2017, 4:08 am

@17: good lord- linking the dev art account was a jab of nostalgia! I read one my own comments hat was posted May 2008 indicating when I started reading Nofna, it's been a long time ..
17 . by: June 17, 2017, 12:56 am

@Furrama Oh my god, that's amazing. Let that be the canon story of how NofNA got its moon.

And I didn't know Zach had an older deviantart account! That'll be a treat to look through this weekend. Thanks for the link!

7? Doy, 10 years ago. I think I was thinking 7 to 7.

Haha, "Ultra Nuts" :P. I like it!
13 . by: Downhill June 16, 2017, 2:04 pm

Ooh, if HIOT was founded after the events in Secretary, was it perhaps caused by them...? I can see why someone going Ultra Nuts and killing people with their corn hallucinations might cause an interest in the mind.
Then again, I guess SV's brain damage was mostly his physical brain rather than his Halo.

*echoing voice*

Update the glossary Dave.
11 . by: Zack June 16, 2017, 9:57 am

Hi,

Whoa, does that still say "Integumentation" and not "Integration?" I should fix that. It's Halo Integration and Organization Trust. I got the "I" word mixed up for a short while back during 10%+.

Additionally, HIOT didn't exist yet during the era of Secretary, at least not in an official way.
10 . by: Picanco June 16, 2017, 7:19 am

Nik, if you go to the top of the page, there's a little about button that has great info in it! The glossary in particular is fantastic.

From said glossary: HIOT -- "An acronym for the Halo Integumentation and Organization Trust, a prestigious and arcane appendage of modern animal society devoted to unraveling the mysteries of the halo brain."
9 . by: nik June 16, 2017, 6:55 am

I can't remember what HOIT stands for, can someone help me out? Thanks! :,)
(Can't remember how it was discribed in Secretary either oh man)

Will there also ever be a visual timeline and/or encyclopedia made for NofNA? The world is super interesting but I do feel a bit lost sometimes without a guide to fall back on :,)
8 . by: Downhill June 16, 2017, 6:20 am

Fiat could do "rotating wheel halting rotation" which allowed her to look at a visual representation of the halo brain. Considering Syconium takes place 50 years after 10%+, I bet they have even more advanced techniques now.
7 . by: kuu June 16, 2017, 5:21 am

I forget what power Fiat had, didn't she have something?
6 . by: June 16, 2017, 5:01 am

Maybe it's just me, but if someone looked at me and said "don't you think it's about time you tell me about yourself", it'd rub me the wrong way. Even if I'd known them a while. I dunno, if I wanted to share, it's a conversation I'd initiate.
5 . by: larkspear June 16, 2017, 2:58 am

If I were to guess, I'd say the technique he's talking about is probably an advanced version of something similar to the... metanoias? (i can never remember the correct technology) the we see during Meander's court case.

If they could create an equivalent to a polygraph then, then maybe something similar could "look into" self reflection in a mirror from a willing participant?

It's more just a neat theory but I'd love to see more pratical uses of those kinda things.
4 . by: Downhill June 16, 2017, 2:11 am

Yes please Fig tell us about your past!! Oh man there's so many blanks that need filling in. Though...will she really tell a guy she wants to fuck this badly about how she bit another guy's dick off?
3 . by: June 15, 2017, 10:29 pm

Figgy's gonna be spinning her head 360 degrees

my god, what is RG thinking right now
2 . by: June 15, 2017, 9:54 pm

this feels like we're preparing for an exorcism omg
