Is this a rebuttal against some tenants of the death of the author?

Art as communication/conversation/a window.

All the colors have their own meaning. You can read through the comic and catalogue the use of each color symbol. It's not always easy to distinguish normal environmental colors from their use as symbols, but you can still find patterns. Backgrounds, the nodes, and characters' eyes will change based on the current action. Speech bubbles reflect characters' attitude or what they tend to talk about. Names can be interpreted as colors. I'm not quite clear on some of the color symbology, particularly for yellow, but I have generally found:

Red - aggression, passion, emotion, threat, dominance(?)

Yellow - excitement, action(?), emotionality(?)

Green - weakness, vulnerability, submission

I previously interpreted colors through th lens of the Munsell System(red, yellow, green, blue, violet[willpower?]) but now assume Opponent Theory(R<->G, B<->Y) with some colors being blends--color phrases, essentially. XY's purple, for example, would represent emotional restraint.

@9, I'm betting Smoothie has a surprise for XX at the end of the hall, if she's jealous of people whose work is being appreciated.

I love the last panels where it shows the "true facts" vs "reality" that can vary so much more.

I recognize Fig's face - the face of jealousy that others got to do what she dreamt of doing but never got.

It's definitely a different invocation of the same blue, I think. You're right, though, and I neglected to connect the two. Whereas the blue used to depict the sky is genuinely Blue, to make a distinction, the blue nodes in the brothel are more sinister and restricting. But I also think it's important to note that dream Fig and the nodes also undergo wild color changes. They've appropriated the color of the world into their own designs and they're prone to distorting the individual's perspective. Ar least, I think that's more explicitly the case for the nodes, both in the narrative and in the way they spontaneously set different color moods e.g. the end of Acai and XX's art convo. So i'm inclined to agree with 5 on this one.

Lighten up Figgy, enjoy the art :(

The nodes aren't "real" lightning though. Fig keeps trying to say that this work has set her free. Possibly the blue in those instances are false freedom and this represents real freedom?

Blue doesn't stand for "insousance" in this story. Various shades of blue and cyan are used for the Labyrinth and the primary color of the nodes and the lightning used by those in charge of the brothel. The representatives of the guards and sentries, Battery and RG, have blue themes. All things that repress, restrain, control, and constrain.

Restriction.

The chef spoke of feeling locked into his role with blue speech bubbles.

The path that vXY and XX took during their first outing was, briefly, highlighted in blue.

When the control collar activated on the last page, it flashed blue (in addition to the expected green).

And...

The Dream Entity is Blue.

Is that the exact blue from Secretary? It reminded me of that immediately.

So cool to show a yellow apple at the end... what a great page this is..

Oh! I love the transition from the last page to this one. And the insouciant blue is making a comeback. We saw it as a major color symbol back in Secretary, and it's appeared one or two times in this story, too. The first that comes to mind for me is when RG talked to XX about their navigating sense, and they mentioned the sky.
